Welcome to Tiewyan Artisans

My name is Bev Thoms and I have lived with my husband and four children on Tiewyan Farm in Montgomery County’s Agricultural Preserve since 1973. I raise a small spinning flock of sheep and goats to support my fiber habit.  I spin, dye, weave, knit, and felt the fiber from my sweet sheep. Recently I have collaborated with 3 artisans, all members of the Potomac Craftsmen Fiber Guild to join the Countryside Artisans Studio Tour. The April tour will be our first venture.

Allow me to introduce Paige Garber:

“I am a Maryland native, and though I have lived many other places, I thrive best in this rich cultural region.  I am always drawn to new techniques and love the play and meditation that engulfs me when I am in the flow of creativity, always fascinated by what the process has to show me.”

Paige is a wonderful felter. You will be astonished by her sense of design and color.

The next amazing artisan is Sharon Janda:

“Clothing as art is the driving force behind Sharon Janda's creations.  Hand-dyed silks and rovings awash in a beautiful array of colors are transformed into unique scarves, clothing, and accessories for the confident woman. Also showcased will be sewn articles of clothing with surprise elements that will delight the eye.”

As you will see her flair for fashion is simply extraordinary. Her clothing designs are absolutely fabulous, and fun!

Next we will feature the work of Grace Mahanes:

“Welcome to the Art of Graceful Touch. Each Charming, one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry is lovingly created by Grace. Through assemblage, a technique of combining diverse elements, Grace creates stunning bracelets, broaches, watches, earrings, necklaces, and cufflinks. She uses original, antique buttons (mostly from the 1800’s), vintage watch parts, antique coins, keys, and vintage typewriter keys to create each individual, elegant, miniature work of art. Although the findings are newly manufactured, Grace’s intricately detailed components are authentic, not reproductions. Each is a piece of history. Recycling at its best! Enjoy!”
